Back to the Kitchen.....

The kitchen???  It's been so long you forgot about it, didn't you?! Well then, it's time for a little update.  There's much still to be done, but much has been done as well.

As a reminder, here, again.....in the very beginning:

Big, big, huge improvement!

I called one of my bestest friends and pleaded for the desk in the middle of my two cabinets. It's where I'll be doing my additional medical transcription work! I thank you, friend....don't cha know ;)

As for my two cabinets....Jim made both of them years ago.  He made the one on the left for his Mom
and the one on the right was one he made for me....in the 1980's....as you can tell by the country hearts.  Jim said he would change out the doors for me.  I'm not sure what we'll change them out to.

As you can tell in the picture below, we have replaced the farmhouse table with an island.  The table was just too big for the kitchen. For now, as you can see, it is pushed up against the wall under the windows; when we get our sink base we'll move the farmhouse table into the dining room.  And, yes, we do have access to a sink with running water. Right through that door is a laundry room with a utility sink.

Below are a couple more pictures of the kitchen.

I love this niche!

Jim just finished the little niche between the fridge and the door today. I love it. The white gunk in the floor is spray foam that's used to fill in gaps and cracks. The excess will be cut off and shoe moulding added.

The knives on top of the fridge was sitting on the red cabinet but I was moving it around and feared they would slide off and stab me. After I got it positioned where I wanted it I forgot to put the knife block back.
This little red stepback cabinet shows off some of my rooster decor, but more than likely it'll be replaced with a more functional cabinet we can use for actual storage.

Speaking of decor....I've had this little wall shelf for a very long time and I'm finally going to hang it!!!....

here...centered on the wall right above the niche.

As you can see below, I still need some sort of wall cabinet.....

....right above the desk.  Here's what I'd LOVE to have:

Also, one last thing....look at the adorable pictures below.  They look old, but I only paid $1.00 a piece for them!!  They WILL be somewhere in my kitchen....don't know where, but somewhere for sure.

We still lack cabinets beside and above the stove too....and a few more finishes, but it's all good!!

Late, But Never Too Late.

I haven't updated the SunnyGrace blog lately because I prefer to post "pretty" pictures and I've had nothing really pretty to post of late!  I must get past that; however, on blogs that I follow the "before" pictures bore the life out of me! Sorry, but that's truth.  If they show the before and the after, I'm good but I don't want to see the before and wait to see the after some time in the future. Again, sorry. From time to time, I am going to document that on my blog too though.

Presently we are preparing to paint the ceiling, and to sand and stain the floor in the only downstairs bedroom, which is here:

This bedroom is about 15' x 15'....the smaller of the bedrooms in the house.

This bedroom will eventually be the home for my twin beds (pictured below, just to remind you); however, for right now we'll buy two twin mattresses and put them on a king bed frame....which is where Jim and I will hold up there for the winter. Come spring, we will again begin to concentrate on renovating SunnyGrace upstairs, including our master bedroom and the upstairs bathroom.  We initially thought we'd get to those rooms before winter; unfortunately, we just won't have the time to get everything done before cold weather. Oh well, that'll just give me more time to explore my possibilities!

These are the twin beds we bought in Clinton, TN a little while ago.
Even though our temporary bedroom will have the equivolent of a king sized bed, I just love the winter-look of this bedroom!

and this one too....
....though, admittedly, I'm not too keen on the boots tucked up under the bench!

And one last one, that I just HAD to post....

I love this robin's egg blue iron bed...and the nice touch of the blue/red quilt.

At any rate, I will be posting pictures of the progress we make in the downstairs bedroom.

More bathroom stuff

Still looking for the right shower curtain....or material for a shower curtain.  I know what I want....I can see it in my mind's eye; however, I canNOT find it anywhere :(

I feel sure I'm going to go blue.  I bought a few old things at the antique/junk store the other day.  I can at least show you those!

For the bathroom:

Butter colored shelf.  I'm going to add a little dowel rod between the two brackets for a hand towel.

The top.

Jim was nice enough to hold another nice find so I could get a picture! A wall lamp.  The picture is a little blurred. I'm not sure IF I'm going to use this in the bathroom or in a bedroom....I'm leaning toward the latter.  In any case, I do love it.

I love these knobs...in this color.  Hobby Lobby. I bought the last two at half price and got a rain check to get four more at half price.....SUPPOSED to get a call this week.

So Close Yet So Far Away

I do believe that until the whole house is finished, then no individual room is going to be quite finished either. It seems that it just takes a lot of bouncing from one room to another....without getting 100% complete in any room!  The thing about that is, I guess it'll all be done at the same time :)

I'll show you what has been done at SunnyGrace since my last post.....and try to convert some of the images in my head into text.

First of all, we had to put up railing on the porch, per the insurance people.  I can't tell you how much we really did not want to do that.  The house has never had railing.....so evidently no one has ever had insurance on this house.  We are NOT the type to be comfortable with that, so SunnyGrace now has railing.

We thought the addition of railing would compromise the character of the house.....

                 But now....

I like it. I think Jim chose well with this design....and he did a great job putting it up....and in a remarkably short amount of time! To me, it looks like it might have always been there.

Let's see...what else?

The foyer: We had this....                                                                       We now have this....

And this:

I love having newly sanded and stained floors!

The sitting room you can see to the right of the picture above has had the floors refinished, but it has sanding dust on it from the foyer. It'll look good again with just a little cleaning, as will the stairs.

The foyer will have a grandfather clock and a couple of Windsor chairs with a small table......and probably a foyer table as well.

The foyer table (or chest....or dresser) will set right where you see the painted wall in the picture above on the left (right under and to the left of the light).

A grandfather clock.....

.....will set on the opposite side of the foyer from the table....between the sitting room opening and the dining room door....here:

The Windsor chairs...                                                                               with a small table.....

will set on this wall, which is the back of the foyer:

Hopefully soon!!!

A Woman's Prerogative....

Ummmm....yep.  Take one last look....

It is no more.

It hit me last night as I was lying in bed that I really don't want this look right now.  For one thing, it looks too springtime. I love it, and will revisit it I'm sure...just not now.

Of course, I will be keeping the basics of the inspiration picture...the potty, the pedestal sink, and the medicine cabinet (Yes!! That's more sanding dust...still.)

Oh, and the door...

But, I'm going to go with a more vintage look.  I'd love old vintage material for a shower curtain....like this (though maybe not this one....or maybe):

with a floral wall basket on the wall like one of these....

or a lighter shower curtain like this one (which I'm leaning toward)...

With a simple and light floral wall basket...

and I love this as a towel rack..

and this vintage print...

And a shelf with an old vintage clock....

An old-look chandelier....like this (definitely this):

An old-look faucet....like this (well, yeah, it's already there):

 Etc...etc....etc!
